Carolina Cobra NEW FOR 2009 The Coaster That Strikes Twice!
Carowinds introduces a new species to the Carolinas, with the introduction of the Carolina Cobra. This 125-foot tall towering twisting serpent will send riders speeding through three inversions, including a cobra roll and a 360-degree loop - both forward and then again backwards.
32-passenger, inverted steel coaster with floorless cars suspended below the track. Takes guests on six inversions including a space drop, a vertical loop, an immelman, a batwing, a flat spin and finally into a spiral.
Carolina Cyclone A steel coaster that spins guests through four consecutive 360 degree loops and a 450 degree uphill helix.
Drop Tower Strap into an open car and lift 160 feet into the air at a speed of 16 feet per second. Feel the tension build as you’re held for a few seconds, and then dropped all the way down on a 100-foot, 56 mph freefall—all in complete safety. Just 60 feet above the ground, the ride’s magnetic braking system saves you from gravity.
Hurler
A wooden rollercoaster that sends guests on a 50-m.p.h. lightning-speed ride.
Nighthawk The Carolinas' only flying coaster soars riders through eight inversions, most while flying facedown, zooming toward the ground and turning skyward just in time for the next inversion.
Scream Weaver
A large wheel with interconnected gondolas spins horizontally before tilting into a vertical position, sending riders into an upside down orbit.
Southern Star A giant looping Viking ship that swings backward and forward, then turns a series of two complete loops, suspending riders upside down 80 feet in the air. Riders experience sudden speed changes and controlled freefall as the ship swings through its 360-degree cycle.
Thunder Road
Twin-racing rollercoasters that take you through two U.S. states - North and South Carolina
Vortex This stand-up rollercoaster takes you on a 50-m.p.h. series of fun-filled loops and dramatic drops.
Xtreme Skyflyer Take on this action-packed adventure and get hoisted 153 feet in the air, then pull a ripcord that plunges you into a 50-foot free fall flight at 60 m.p.h. You will experience the soaring thrill of hang gliding coupled with the suspense of skydiving. This is a pay-per-experience attraction.
Weather Conditions that Affect Rides Rides will close due to weather conditions, particularly rain, high winds and/or lightning. A specific answer as to which rides close or remain open is not possible because varying degrees of inclement weather cause different effects on different rides. Those rides affected the most are the roller coasters and the high rides. Carowinds makes every effort to reopen the rides as quickly and safely as possible after the adverse weather conditions cease. Sorry, no rainchecks or refunds.
